Drama and Debate

The objective of the drama emphasis is to develop teamwork and confidence, to challenge students' spoken English and to expand the range of their self-expression. While some groups may choose to stage a dramatic production for their final Cabaret Performance, all students will have an opportunity to engage in creative exercises to help unleash their creativity and develop their sense of expression.

The art of rhetoric has been instrumental in the development of our world, from forming consensus within our communities to the exploration of new ideas, philosophies, morals, ethics and their relevance. Students at CSE 2008 will learn the basic tenets of debate through various interactions.

The debate emphasis for CSE is designed to integrate the elements of a debate into our work together. Students will routinely be challenged to form an opinion (thesis), answer a challenge (antithesis), and arrive at a wider perspective through understanding (synthesis).
